Week 2
01/17: Invention

Writing is a process, not an event. The first step in that process is to free ourselves from the internal critic that stifles our creative thought process. Invention exercises help us to find topics and subjects appropriate for the writing assignment and for our own interests.

  • Discuss “Casa: A Partial Remembrance of a Puerto Rican Childhood.”

  • Presentation on Reading and Writing Essays
01/19: Rough Draft

In process writing, we work through our ideas one step at a time. In this course, you will use a multiple-draft writing process to help you to more fully take advantage of your editorial/proofing and reading abilities as a tool for shaping your essay.

Week 3
01/24 & 26: Revision

Revision is the essence of process writing. Given the ability to read, and re-read our essays, we inevitably produce essays that are more fully realized and free from stylistic and grammatical problems.

    • Homework: Finish first (rough) draft of Essay One

Week 4

  • Homework: Find a bumpersticker you like, write it down and bring to class
